All is now set for the official dedication of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Police Chaplaincy Owerri, Imo State.

Built by the State Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu and billed to be dedicated by the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Most Reverend Dr. Anthony Obinna, the ecclesiastical event is slated to take place on Saturday (today) at the Chaplaincy premises Shell Camp, Owerri.
Speaking to journalists in Owerri, the Commissioner of Police stated that he was motivated to embark on the building for the Lord owing to the dilapidated condition of the chaplaincy when he came on board.

He said, “On my arrival, I was introduced to the magnificent Assumpta Cathedral church for worship as an ardent catholic. I worshipped there thrice. It was then that I was told there was a Police Catholic Chaplaincy at Shell Camp. I therefore decided not to attend Eucharistic masses at the cathedral. This was aimed at encouraging other officers and men of the police.”

“The chaplaincy then could hardly contain 300 worshippers.  I attended mass there for four weeks. Worried about the discomfort in the poultry-like chaplaincy, I was spurred to make a move for the building of a bigger and more befitting chaplaincy for the worship of God, not only for Police officers but for all and sundry.”

Lakanu nevertheless, noted that he went into action by involving most of his friends and other well meaning individuals, who he said assisted in putting the chaplaincy in its present shape.

Lakanu said, “My tenacious belief is that when one help in building for the Lord, one is investing in His vineyard. I also doggedly believe that the success recorded so far in the state in the area of crime reduction was owing to that feat and full intervention of God Almighty in our police dealings”.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Dedication Planning Committee, Mr. Francis Bissong said, “We thank God for the life of the Police Commissioner who has blessed the entire police community both in spiritual and other police-related matters. These gestures I tenaciously believe brought about the huge success in building and dedication of the chaplaincy.”

In his comments, the Chaplain, Reverend Father  Dr. Innocent Emeam said, “The building of the chaplaincy is something to be grateful for to God. This is because it is simply the act of God that helped us to go through the difficulties of building a befitting house of God. This is also because I strongly believe that unless God be with a people, they cannot accomplish onerous tasks of building for Him.”
